Intel® Skylake

Skylake processors are manufactured with 14-nm structures. These allow for accommodating a greater number of switching devices (transistors) on the same surface while reducing switching paths and times. This permits even faster operation at even lower energy requirements. The graphics processing unit integrated in the processor is called HD Graphics 530 and supports DirectX 12.

NEW PROCESSOR MICROARCHITECTURE BY INTEL

Skylake is the codename for the new processor microarchitecture by Intel, which is the successor of the Intel Broadwell microarchitecture. Just like the Broadwell processors, the Skylake processors are based on a 14-nm process technology. Since the processors of the 6th generation belong to the Intel Core family, most process numbers begin with a “6”.

The chips have been optimised, especially as regards graphics and power consumption. Skylake supports 4K displays with 60 Hz as well as the simultaneous control of three displays.

The integrated graphics chips with a maximum frequency of 1,150 MHz reach up to 1,152 GFLOPS and permit a significantly improved graphics performance than the chips of the previous generations, featuring Direct3D 11/12, OCL 2.x, OLG 4.3 /4.4, ES 2.0. The “HD Graphics” are designated by three-digit numbers beginning with a 5 (510/515/520/530/540/550).

For the first time, Xeon processors for mobile computing are available as well. Depending on the platform, up to 20 PCIe lanes of the 3rd generation are provided.
